A Great Day

Billy (155 pounds), on his way to a 440# deadlift. The CFLG trainers led the Los Gatos charge, proving they walk the walk, not just talk the talk.Sunday's King of the Hill affiliate throwdown between CF Los Gatos and CF West Santa Cruz showcased the ability and character of the two CrossFit affiliates. It was certainly a battle, a very close one, and the camaraderie, support, heart, and sheer athletic fitness exhibited made it a great one.
There were three WODs: a clean and jerk/sprint AMRAP, a max effort deadlift, and a classic gymnastic/weightlifting snatch/pullup couplet. The two affiliates mustered a total of ten teams, with two RX'd teams per box. The scoring was dual meet style where points are accumulated by all the RX'd teams from each affiliate, not just the single top team. The competition was very tight. CF West won the AMRAP by one round, 68 to 67. CFLG took the deadlift honors by 100 pounds. And the final WOD, the couplet, was won by CF West by just 1 minute, and they took home the King of the Hill banner.
Both boxes showed tremendous heart and support. The deadlift WOD in particular was exciting to watch. Surrounded by cheering crowds, nearly everyone, literally just about everyone, PR'd; many by large jumps. Great work CF Los Gatos.
As everyone--competitors, spectators, children, and Mowgli--had a great time, we hope to have more affiliate dual meets with some of the other CF boxes around town. A big thank you to the judges and to CF West for hosting. And to all the competitors--congratulations and thank you for representing us so well. Take care of yourselves (ice, stretch, roll, relax) and I will see you all in the Cage.
Workout:
Rest Day (you deserve it, but if there is no rest for the wicked, classes will be held as normal)

Great work everyone.
I had so much fun!! Thanks for letting me still be apart of this. I am so proud to have represented CFLG and am sad that I have to wait a whole year for this to happen again!!! Miss you guys already and come visit me at CF One World.

What an outstanding performance by all. Matt, Kristin and Kelly, I could not have asked for a better team. I had a great time and I think CFLG definitely demonstrated that we can hang with any affiliate. I think the next competition will be CFLG vs Crossfit Cadence. That will be a showdown.
Thank you Jocelyn for the pics.
Thanks to Sam for organizing and to CFWSC for hosting -- yesterday was a lot of fun!
Great job by everyone at CFLG! How many PR's did we get yesterday? Epic performances across the board. Can't wait to do it again.
Next year we will be taking home that banner...
WOW! What a great time. Thanks to my team mates, Lindsey, Sarah and Pat. And BIG props to Pat for taking a few "two-fers" on the first WOD! Pat, we missed you on the final WOD but posted a respectable 8:47 thanks to Sarah and Lindsey killing the snatches. It was amazing watching the power to weight ratio for both the men and women with the amount weight being thrown around compared to body weight. Billy keeps pounding the neurological aspect of Crossfit into my head and I'm becoming a believer!
So is next Sunday too early to re-compete? :-)
I am so proud of all of us but THANK YOU to my team especially. Matt, Justin, and Kristin I feel honored to have had you as my teammates and I promise to have butterfly kipping pull-ups down by the next competition!!
Guys that was seriously so much fun! (even though I got lost on the way there and almost missed the first wod KILL ME! sorry guys) such a pleasure to compete with you all. I was so proud of every single person competing from CFLG- and it was great to work next to and compete against our sister box. Joc that was like a dream come true for me ... I really look up to you!! :)
Matt Justin and Kelly- proud of you guys, thanks for doing some extra pushups for this gal! great fun and a great team!! Go dead lifters!!
I know I have some work to do for the next comp. lets not wait a year!!!
Thanks Sam! GOOD FUN
KELLY!!! ME TOO I LOVED US hahaha :) thanks for the shirt. Don't stay up there too long. Come down and visit. And ill make it up there to train promise!
GREAT work on Sunday CFLG! You were all phenomenal! I really enjoyed seeing you all compete, I hope it made all the 6am's worth it. I will say we cannot wait a year to do this, I think every 6 months isn't even enough, let's compete!! As for class goers yesterday, great job on the seven rounder, it is a lot of work and you all pushed through it! That one might be the Good, the Bad and the Ugly...
Am I the only person who is still disabled from Sun's comp?!!...
I am seriously in envy of my own clients recovery abilities! I still cant even straighten my arms or bend over and you guys are eating up my wod's like candy!!
Shaun I'm not gunna lie, I'm glad my elements came in cuz I'm still not worth a shit. Maybe next day or so.
I'm gunna rank this weekend's competition as one of the funnest most memorable events in recent memory! I'm still riding the high off watching everyone get after it so hard. This weekends performances continue to drive home to me how powerful it can be to perform for and in front of your peers. Truly another level for everyone. I want to thank everyone for making it such a success! I'm proud of everyone's effort.
I was only on the side lines cheering you folks on---had my pom-poms out, but alas, no admiring looks!--and even had to leave early to deal with a plumbing disaster; but I just want all of the competitors to know how fine you were. You done us proud! Not only was the athleticism on display truly impressive, the enthusiasim and comraderrie made for a wonderful and affirming event. Cudos to all of you, and especially to Sam & co. for putting it on. Indeed, let's do something similar soon--and next tiime I look forward to putting my shoulder to the wheel!
Shaun posted that Moxie Crossfit Challenge next week. I need another male partner. I would be happy with any of the athletes at CFLG. I want to do Rx so I am thinking of Matt F. , Greg, Ian, John...lets go get it. Billy and Shaun have already formed there team. Also we need to females. Shaun snaked me and took Kelly already so he has already divided my team from last week. Kristin, are you interested to join us again? Any female who wants to compete Rx let me know. The competition is Nov 7th!
Furthermore, Shaun advised me to try this crossfit football workout this morning. It was ridiculous.
5 Rounds of:
135 lbs Locked Out Overhead Lunges---> 30 Reps
1 Full Gasser
30 Kettlebell Swings at 72lbs
Time: 47:13
I hate you Shaun for requesting this. The hardest workout I have ever attempted. All I could hear in the back of my mind was Tony Budding from the movie Every Second Counts saying "If you quit a Crossfit workout, it is your own personal shame"!!!!! So I kept going. My left hand is still completely numb!
Here's the workout from Crossfit Moxie (If someone could help me make sense of the "rules", I might be compelled to give it a go . . . either way, I'll at least come to watch :) :
In teams of 4, 2 Men, 2 Women:
2000m Row
40 Hang Power Cleans, 115/63
40 Pull Ups
40 Back Squats, 115/63
200m Run
Rules:
-Each team gets one rower and one pull up bar.
-Once the row has begun, both bars must remain off the ground.
-Only men may touch the men's bar, only women may touch the women's bar.
-If either bar touches the ground at any point the entire team must pay a 10 burpee penalty.
-Each sex must do 40 reps of each exercise, breaking it up however they like.
-Everyone must row some distance. And the bars must travel the entire distance of the run.
-The men and women will receive separate total times. Team score will be the total of the men's time added to the women's time. FOR EXAMPLE: If it takes the men 15:00 min to finish, and the women come in at 15:00 min, the teams total time is 30:00 min.
-There will be a 25min time limit for the event.
Class A=RX'd
Class B=95/53, Band Pull Ups
Class C=45/33, Jumping Pull Ups
NOTE: The top 4 teams will compete in a secret finals competition to be announced after the first workout is completed
Justin-
Thanks for thinking of me and I would love to compete but have prior comittments for that date. I am sure one of the other guys will step and you guys should kick ass. Keep me in mind for the future. With a little more leasd time any upcoming comp.s should not be a problem. Good luck to evryone who competes!!!
Kevin,
I believe the rower must be going at all times. Which means 1 male and 1 female must be on the bar while the rower is going. I am a bit confused as well but I am intrigued. This workout is made for the athletes at CFLG. I think most of us may be able to finish that workout alone in under 25 minutes. I think the best bet is to go, hear exactly how the rules are going to be and just hit it. The one lesson I have learned from team competitions is to never have a game plan. There are too many factors. For example, If everyone splits the work up evenly, it is almost certain that someone will not be able to finish there section which throws the entire plan off.
Matt and I had a great plan for the recent comp against CFWSC, I just went till I needed a break and then Matt jumped in. If you try and do 20 of each, you will eventually run out of gas.
Do plan on joining a team?
Justin,
Thanks - I could see the temptation to break this workout up evenly. I think the big things are:
1) getting the row done asap so you have all of the athletes available for the bar work.
2) planning your transitions wig the bar to avoid dropping it and getting the pentality.
I'm still on the fence - but it looks like we would need 2 ladies to form another team,
Kevin
Justin and Kevin,
How many guys do we have lined up for Rx'd teams? And how many women?
Also, as I understand the rules, each team need only have one male and one female runner, right?
Just thinking....
Chris
Chris,
Not entirely sure how many teams we have. My team isn't even close to being set up. I might just go there and put something together. I would be honored to go with any RX male or Female from CFLG. These workouts are made for us.
As for the run, I am confused by it too. I think it can be 2 males running but I am not completely sure. I am just going to go there and listen to the rule set.
Matt F and I did a killer workout this morning at about 8:45am. We followed Freddy's Revenge format which is 5 rounds of:
5 push jerks at 185lbs
10 burpess
But instead we did a ladder progression of 1 the first minute 2 the second ect. until the time overlapped. I used 185lbs and MAtt used 155lbs!!!! It was a killer. I completed 7 rounds and Matt had 5!! Glad I had him by my side. It is always nice having a fellow competitor pushing you. Give this workout a shot.
